But even that may fail, owing to the more or less complete elimination of the poison from the system before death. The chief post-mortem indications of death from poisoning are those which are found in the stomach and intestines after death from corrosives or irritants. These indications are redness, softening, ulceration, perfora- tion. Each of these conditions may be found as a result of natural disease, and it is therefore necessary to distinguish them if possible. The redness resulting from the inflammation of an irritant is usually a deep crimson red, which becomes brighter by exposure to air. prev     next
