The first papers that announced it to a wider circle of readers, are to be found in the Journal des Savans. There, in particular, appeared in 1695 tne Systeme nouveau (my edition, No 35, pp 124 sey), and the explanations that followed it. In 1684 Leibnitzs connection with Berlin and his journeys thither begin, for in that year his pupil, the Princess of Hanover, married the Elector of Brandenburg, afterwards King of Prussia. A more important journey was the one which he undertook to Italy, in order to make some searches in the records. This kept him away from Hanover for three years, and resulted in the formation of close connections with Vienna, Florence, Rome, Venice, etc In 1691 Leibnitz was also appointed librarian to the (Catholic) Duke Anton Ulrich at Wolfenbtittel. prev     next
